Epsilon Xi Omega College Scholarship Programs and Events

Epsilon Xi Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, has awarded academic scholarships to San Diego County High School graduates since it's chartering in 1949. Financing for the scholarships was originally awarded from proceeds garnered from the Fashionetta Fashion shows, and after 1955, when the EXO debutante ball became the fundraiser for Epsilon Xi Omega’s scholarships.

All EXO scholarships require a 3.0 or higher GPA in a San Diego County high school and applicants must plan to attend an accredited 4-year college/university.  The $1,000 scholarships are awarded after verification of 2018 college/university enrollments are  received.  Scholarship recipients will be recognized at the June Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Scholarship Reception and Art Gallery in June:

The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. 2019 Scholarship - Calling qualified African American/African Diaspora females in San Diego County High Schools to apply!  Young men are eligible if they plan to attend an HBCU (Historical Black College or University).  Awards are $1,000-$1,500 each and the deadline to submit is April 3, 2019.  High school seniors must graduate in Spring 2019 and plan to attend an accredited four-year college in the Fall, 2019.  For all awards, students must have a cumulative 3.0 or higher GPA.  The fillable application is posted below

The Octavia Coleman Scholarship is awarded to a female or male high school graduate planning to attend a historically black college or university (HBCU). 

The Pearlen Denmon Scholarship is awarded to a female attending or residing in the boundary areas of Lincoln HS, San Diego HS or Gompers Preparatory Academy.

The EMRJJ Scholarship for Future Female Engineers is awarded to a female applicant pursuing a degree in a STEM field—preferably entering an accredited College of Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical or Aerospace).  She must also be a role model with strong ethical character and willing to mentor peers and/or younger students. 

The Empowerment Scholarship is awarded to a female applicant who successfully demonstrates overcoming hardship or special circumstances such as: immigrant or refugee status, special physical or learning needs, foster care, etc. 

The Unique Health Care Scholarship is awarded to a female applicant planning to pursue a career in a professional medical field.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.® and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. are two Greek letter organizations that work to improve our communities and provide opportunities for youth to be mentored, recognized and appreciated. In keeping with that mission, we are hosting our annual Essay Contest. Cash prizes in the amounts of $100, $75, and $50 will be awarded to first, second and third place winners in each of the age categories. This contest is your opportunity to present your viewpoint and possibly be heard by the San Diego community.
